Coaches Responsibilities
General Guidelines
All coaches are responsible for proper conduct at games and related functions. To achieve this goal the following guidelines have been established:
1. The head coach is responsible for establishing how fundamentals will be taught. If assistant coaches don’t agree with the way something is being taught we can debate any such topics after practice. We have to be united. The players can’t meet two or three different sets of expectation.
2. Don’t over coach. Everybody doesn’t have to be a hitting our pitching clone. Don’t disrupt a player’s natural physical movements unless they are the cause of failure or put the player at risk of injury.
3. Coaches are expected to support and promote a TEAM attitude. Any questions or concerns regarding utilization of players, game management, etc. must be addressed only to the Head Coach and only in the presence of the coaching staff. Discussing these issues with or in front of players, parents or your own family plants a divisive seed. We have to be unified in our approach if we expect players and parents to be.
4. This is competitive baseball. We will coach to win. That is one of the best fundamentals you can teach. However, we will respect all players, show confidence in them, provide them opportunities for success, and treat them the way we want our kids to be treated. If you lack confidence in a player, that is a great indicator of where your focus should be during practice. We will work hardest with the players that need the most work.
5. No foul language will be tolerated.
6. Coaches will not be intoxicated in the presence of players. If social drinking occurs at tournaments or other functions coaches will drink responsibly, discretely and never before or between games.
7. During games, while on the field, coaches will only be allowed to instruct players regarding the next potential play, not the prior play.
8. 8Coaches will wait until players come off the field between innings to discuss and correct a mental or fundamental error.
9. No yelling at or berating players. If you are emotionally charged, ask another coach to address the issue with the player.
10. Only the Head Coach may address an umpire regarding a disputed call, etc. This includes body language and pointed remarks.
11. A coach that is ejected from a game must immediately and silently leave the field and will be suspended for next game. Before returning to duty the coach must apologize to the team and if appropriate the parents
Coaching Responsibilities
Coaches are responsible for developing individual and team skills. This includes:

2. Establishing a repertoire of practice drills that can be used to teach techniques and ensure efficient use of time and space, and ensure adequate repetitions.
3. Being a student of the game. Pick up ideas from other coaches / teams that we may want to implement. Bring to the attention of the Head Coach any recommendations regarding the way we teach specific fundamentals.
4. Preparing every player on the team to be fully utilized. As we identify weaknesses we need to work hard to improve skill sets. To be successful as a team, both the player(s) and the coaches need to be confident of the player(s) abilities.
